Based on raw material like rosin and obtained after different processing methods, turpentine is actually a kind of transparent, colorless, terpene mixed liquid, which is volatile and of aromatic odor, featuring with relative density at 0.86 ~ 0.87, refractive index 1.4670 ~ 1.4710, flash point 32 ℃, and self-ignition point 235 ℃. Components of turpentine vary with species, ages and origins of the trees. α- pinene is primary component of turpentine followed by beta pinene, limonene, and a small number of sesquiterpene, namely longifolene and caryophyllene. As a result , turpentine is an excellent organic solvent, widely used in paint, dryer agent, adhesive, and other industries. In recent years, turpentine is more often used in synthetic industry .
