With its raw material from pine and rosin, gum rosin is a kind of natural and non-volatile resin obtained by different processing methods. It’s also a hard but brittle, transparent, thermoplastic, vitreous, and solid substance, with a peculiar smell of pine, color ranging from light yellow to yellow light red. Gum rosin is a mixture of a variety of ingredients, components of which vary slightly as per pine species, and larger amount of them are acid composition while a small amount being fatty acids and neutral compounds. Among commonly consumed gum rosin, resin acid content is about 85.6 ~ 88.7%, fatty acid content 2.5 ~ 5.4%, neutral material content 5.2 ~ 7.6%, softening point 70 ~ 90 ° C, specific gravity 1.070 to 1.085, melting point 15.8kcal/kg. Gum rosin is featured with crystallization and easy to be crystallized.
